Analysis Of A Video From The Current Chart

R.City - Locked Away ft Adam Levine

"Locked Away" is a song by American singers R.City and Adam Levine. This song is a pop ballad and features up beat and bass type instruments.

Two versions of this music video were released, one was a promotional video, which showed all of the artists, and the other was a lyric video, with aspects of the music video in there.

Genre Characteristics
From their video we can tell that it's genre is pop. The "Locked Away" video is narrative-based, and althoug R.City is playing a character, clips of them performing the song as well as Adam Levine are interspersed throughout the video.

Relationship between the lyrics and the visual
R.City's "Locked away" is narrativev-based, presenting the storyline described within the lyrics. The lyrics describe different scenarios, and asking whether, if they get sent away for what they have done, will their other hald still love them, the way they used to.  The scenario, I feel relates more too the lyrics, is when you see a girl pushed up against a police car, face down and her father watching as this all happens. Throughout the music video, you see her loosen herself and run to give her father a hug. I feel the father has forgotten everything his daughter has done, and will 'still love her the same', as if she had done nothing, this also can be seen towards th end of the video, he runs up to the police car, whilst she's inside, and places his hand upon the windo, as if to reassure her, that everything will be fine.

Voyeurism & Male Gaze
In this music video there isnt any notion of looking, only towards the end when they are partying out on the beach, and one of R.City is looking at their wife, this is seen as they're are many mini shots of her, its as if they're focused on her.

Intertextuality
Again not really seen within the music video

Star Image
I guess the only thing i can say is that Adam Levines hair, as he has a shaved head in the music video, i guess you could say his image has changed, as he is normally seen with his dark brown locks, and now seen cleanly shaven.
