Definition of Auteur and why is it important.
What is an Auteur?
An Auteur is a film/music video maker whose style and practise is distinctive which creates their signature auteur status for them. It is also another way in which the director/maker can personalise and keep creative control over his or her work. For example Chris Cunningham, as he is known for his weird and warped style of disturbing imagery.
Audiences who go to see a film because of its director will respond differently to those who go to see a film because of its star. They are more likely to attempt to unpick its meaning, identify aspects of the director's style.
