The Importance of a band image and band dress code - Most start up bands pay little attention to their image or dress code since they are all about the music. This is fine if your music appeals to the masses. There are some genres of music that fit a certain dress code. This is subjective, so of course it depends on the band. In general a rock or hard rock band may wear black clothes, leather pants, jeans. Country bands may wear jeans, cowboy boots, cowboy hats, or more conservative apparel. While a pop group may wear more flashy type clothing.



The image of One Direction shows that they have a lot of energy behind them. The bright use of colours on each of the members clothing suggests that the genre of music is Pop which is fun music genre and this is shown well through the band members facial expressions and the body language of each member. The clothing that the band is wearing are aimed at teens suggested from the bright and vibrant colours. Due to the clothing being on a young popular band, many people will aspire to also dress like One Direction.

If we are to look how Ed Sheeran is constructed in this image in terms of music, the genre he most usually plays could be acoustic or pop. His physicality shows his simplicity and also the background which is too plain. It looks as if he is not the typical pop singer that you’ll have interest because of his tousled red hair and casual clothing such as the shirt he’s wearing and the denim jacket. He is like a sensitive guy who loves to play guitar. His direct mode of address really conveys that he can melt other people’s heart through his songs.
